A stay in Taliouine offers plenty of variety. On the outskirts of town, the once-magnificent Glaoui Kasbah catches the eye. Numerous nearby destinations are easily accessible via short hikes. In November, everything revolves around saffron; after the harvest, the Saffron Festival is celebrated. In the wider area, there are granaries—some of which are still in use—visiting which usually leads to interesting encounters with the villagers. Unusually constructed buildings—fortress-like structures with circular floor plans—give the observer’s imagination plenty of room to roam. What were they once used for? It’s worth paying attention to the region between Taliouine and Agadir Melloul. Tourists rarely venture into this part of the Anti-Atlas. The locals are happy to take the time to show you the unique features of their village—even rock engravings. An invitation for tea and a meal is almost a given…
